back

stopped a line drive with my shin in august, "sounded like a baseball hitting a sack of meat with a bone in it." a bad bone bruise put a halt to my marathon training (CIM in december, Big Sur in the spring). shoot.
just got back to the running a couple weeks ago, ran the bridge to bridge 7k with a friend who's a sprinter, it was no easy task trying to pace him, and then he killed me in the last 100m to the finish line. left me in the dust! so funny.
i ran into some black widows while gardening. three of them. one inside my dress. shudder. oh it was so gross. i may have screamed. i definitely pulled my dress up over my head, while standing in front of my house, one block away from the polk street blues fest, making my neighborhood far too busy a place for discrete flashing. whoopsie. hey neighbors.
went for a hike with coworkers to locate a broken pipeline in a canyon in hayward memorial park. the pipe was off the trail, the route cleared by machete. poison oak was everywhere, bushes, vines, all over. i've never had a reaction to it so i didn't worry too much, but i tried not to touch anything.
my hand went numb.
i noticed what looked like a spider bite with fang marks on my arm. did the black widow bite me without me even noticing? i'm tough, but i don't think i'm that tough.
the "bite" grew to cover most of my forearm. crap. and then the other arm. and both legs. and my neck. and random spots on my stomach and back...that's not a bug bite at all, that's my first case of poison oak. and it sucks so much worse than i realized. i imagined the itchiness, but not the lack of sleep, the deep muscle pain, the swelling, the blistering, the oozing, the having to wear pants and long sleeves on very rare warm weather days in sf because i look like a monster. i can't run OR do yoga like this. grrrrrr.
it's only temporary.
fleet week was at it's best this weekend, highlighted by the blue angels showing off their tricks. since i've lived in nob hill i've always watched the show from my roof, i have a great view of the bay. this year i thought i'd walk down the street, see how it looked closer up. thought i'd sit on the slope of the park below the old russian hill reservoir, but i met a wall of crowd and angry drivers before i even got there. it was insane. figured if i was going to be in a crowd i might as well go front row. i made my way to the sea wall steps at aquatic park, sitting next to some park dwellers with a case of sierra nevada. the show was amazing. ridiculous. i felt sick watching them, just waiting for a disaster that never came. it felt like the ultimate american gloat fest, throw away the obvious waste of fossil fuels and tax payer funding, and all that's left is holy crap, america rules. sophie might not have felt the same way, she was over it pretty quick so we didn't stay for the whole show.
passerby quote of the day: i'm patriotic as fuck...i just like thai food.

i watched 3 seasons of madmen this summer.
i'm not a giants fan but i'd like them to keep winning.
i got internet at home.
the bossi clan visited last weekend.
mesaana got adopted.
i booked my trek and flights for peru and colombia next month.
the lions slaughtered the rams today!
welcome back.
