Showshoeing!

This weekend Sophie and I went out to Leslie's family's cabin in Arnold to play in the snow with the girls. There was no snow to play in! After a wonderfully wet November and December, January has been a of disappointment in the snow department. We rented snowshoes, caravaned up to the snow at Spicer Reservoir, and went on a snowshoeing expedition. We had a picnic lunch of soup, baguette, and hot chocolate. Back at the cabin Sophie was having a picnic of Greens bar and chocolate covered almonds...she had a rough night. We ate amazing butternut squash/potato/caramelized onion/rosemary pizza. We watched a remarkably (and unexpectedly, at least for me) horrible rom-com: Going the Distance. Leslie put me to Boggle shame in three rounds, each round slaughtering me in exponential fashion. Sunday morning we woke up in a winter wonderland, dry January is over!

Densie and I took an amazingly horrible picture, which will be shared through Leslie as soon as her photos are downloaded. Sophie fell in love with Crosby. Colette's aunt has amazing snow gear. Arnold is a small town, even Larry the coffee shop guy knew who we were when we walked in.

This was fun, maybe it will become a tradition...

sundance!

i went to 1412 kensington for the last time this weekend, it was a sadder goodbye than you'd expect. that house is so cute, ma and kev made it into a perfect little home, and now they're leaving. but hey, a fantastic house in salt lake city still isn't as good as saratoga.

since i was already in salt lake, we decided to go on down to this little moviefest thing called sundance. we saw The Flaw, to.get.her, Here, Pariah, and We Were Here. we also ate at 3 of ma's favorite restaurants for the last time (oasis, squatters-tofu tacos!, and mazza), drank lots of wine, slept in until almost 8 o'clock, and did lots of crosswords. and the piece the resistance: i made a dark chocolate marzipan ritter sport last for 5 entire movies. what?! i know.

looking forward to more sundance fun next year, don't know where we'll stay or how we'll get around, but i'm sure we'll figure it out.

sykes!

lori&brandon, leslie&steve, and adam&i&sophie went out to big sur for a hike and camp at sykes hot springs. it was fantastic. also fantastic, we stopped for dinner at dharma's in santa cruz both directions. score!
