odd.

isn't it strange how you can cram yourself so full of vegetables that there's a good chance you'll actually explode...but that the compartment in your belly where the brownie is supposed to fit can still be STARVING?
it's administrative professionals day and my old boss (who is a ridiculously talented baker) brought in exactly the kind of brownies i need to fill that void. and rum cake. and mini blueberry cheesecakes. none vegan.

detroit to davis via kalamazoo and santa cruz

we played kickball with these kids in the sweltering west oakland heat after work today, i had to shoo away a couple of crackheads with 40s who were using very loud and very inappropriate language behind the backstop. and then jackie and i sat in a sweaty cafeteria and worked on division...that's worth a couple bucks, right?!

ok, fun stuff:
went to michigan to visit family, had a nice stay with sparky (and uncle randy, aunt karen, and shelby)
and another nice stay with fergus (and grandma and charles)
met up with uncle steve for dinner
went to santa cruz for a visit with co, neighbors fun mailbox
and a hike with the famous banana slugs
and i went to davis for the 96th picnic day in ucd's centennial year.
i cuddled the greyhounds and was impressed with the frisbee dogs, but i only took pictures of the parade. it was HOT. well low 90s, not really that hot, but way too hot for april. and way too hot for a girl who rarely leaves the 55-70 range.

raising funds

hey folks,

like just about every youth program these days, the lafayette school mentoring project is facing tough times. i've been with the program for a couple years now, tutoring jackie through 3rd and 4th grade math, reading, and constantly grammar. but it's not just tutoring, it's one-on-one time, it's getting their butts kicked by the tutors in kickball, it's field trips, ice skating, movies, basketball games, kite flying, and just generally exploring the world outside of west oakland.

it's a lot of fun, and it's an important program to me, to the hundred or so other volunteers, and to the kids of lafayette school.

to help cushion the blow of these economic times, and bring in a little cash to keep the program running while grant money is hard to come by, the program is having a fundraiser on saturday april 25th, details are on the flier above (click to enlarge).

if you want to come, let me know and i'll help you get tickets. wine and food will be provided by generous local merchants, and there are some seriously sweet raffle prizes (see the list of sponsors at the bottom of the flier for an idea of the goods). you get three raffle tickets with your ticket to the fundraiser, or if you can't make it to the fundraiser you can just buy raffle tickets (you get the warm fuzzy feeling of donating, but with the chance to win something, even better!)

p.s. i'd like to bring someone with me, i'll even pay, the catch is it's in san leandro (close to bart)...any takers? first responder gets to be my date...oh man, this could be embarrassing, i hope there's at least one response.
